Pharmacology PYQ 7

Q. Define Chemotherapy. Give classification of antibiotics and explain the combination is used in treatment of tuberculosis.

Ans :-

• Define :- It is defined as the use of chemical compounds in the treatment of cancer and Infections diseases , so as to destroy the microorganisms without damaging the host tissues.

Example:- penicillin, tetracycline

• classification:-

1) Effective Against Gram Positive Bacteria :-

A) used for systemic infections :- penicillin

B) used topically:- bacitracin

2) effective against gram negative bacteria :-

A) used for systemic infections:- streptomycin, kanamycin

B) used locally in intestinal infections:- paromomycin

3) effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria:-

A) used for systemic infections:- ampicillin, ampicillin

B) used topically:- neomycin

4) effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, rickettsiae  :- tetracycline, chloramphenicol

5) effective against acid fast bacilli:- rifamcin, streptomycin.

- Based On Side Of Action antibiotics cam be classified as :-

1) inhibitors of cell wall synthethesis :- penicillin

2) inhibitors of cell membrane function :- polymixin

3) inhibitors of protein synthesis:- tetracycline

4) inhibitors of nucleic acid synthesis / function:- rifamcin

5) inhibitors of metabolism :- sulpha drugs

OR ;

1) Effective against gram positive bacteria:- penicillin

2) effective against gram negative bacteria:- streptomycin

3) effective against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria:- tetracycline

4) effective topically:- polymixin

• Drug combination is used in treatment of tuberculosis:-

1) resistance to anti - TB Drugs Is developed quickly of used as a single drug .

2) combination therapy reduces bacterial load effectively and quickly.

3) combination therapy gives synergistic Effects.

4) side effects are lesser with the combination tham with single drug used in high dose.
